Joseph was born in Aberdeen in 1975 and has spent much of his life in the northeast of Scotland. He read Music at the University of Cambridge, graduating in 1997 with First Class honours. Joseph has conducted research into synaesthesia, a fascinating neurological phenomenon which can, among other things, lead to a feeling of strong association between sounds and colours. Click here to read a paper he has written about his own experiences of this. Joseph loves cats, and has had various pet cats since 2008. Joseph is registered partially sighted, and has been visually impaired all his life.
