I was born in Aberdeen in 1975. I’ve spent most of my life in the northeast of Scotland. I attended mainstream education and then read Music at the University of Cambridge, graduating with First Class honours.

I’m a composer as well as a performer, and I’ve received several commissions. I’m also interested in all issues connected with music and education, and have a strong drive to impart knowledge to others.

My other activities have included construction from sound recordings of various pieces by Horowitz for which printed scores are not extant, and research into the fascinating phenomenon of synaesthesia (“coloured hearing” and other forms - see the articles page for a paper I’ve written about my own experiences of this).

As well as performing and teaching, I enjoy reading, travel, computing and chess.
